Fresques XXL Vincent-Auriol
Giant murals along the elevated metro line.
The story of the place
The boulevard follows the line of the old Farmers-General wall and was still called boulevard de la Gare until 1976, when it took the name of President Vincent Auriol. Down its middle runs the metro viaduct, carrying since 1909 the line that links Place d'Italie to Nation: it brings passengers level with the tall blind gable walls that line the route. Since 2009 the Itinerrance gallery and the 13th arrondissement town hall have had monumental murals painted here; the short-lived Tour Paris 13 show, in 2013, established the district's reputation.
